Lois Giorgis
Although she majored in art in high school, minored in art in college, won a summer art scholarship to the University of Denver and spent a summer studying at the Chicago Art Institute, she still considers herself largely self taught. She began winning awards in high school and was named "Young Artist of the Year" in the northern Illinois area.
As a young adult she became interested in portraiture and since then has done over two hundred commissioned portraits. She was also invited to display her abstract watercolors in the "Illinois Artists" exhibition at the McCormick Place in Chicago.
Since retiring to Arkansas she has had more time to devote to her art, working in both realism and abstraction, pushing color to the limits. Her work has received awards in Illinois, Texas, and Arkansas. She is a member of the Conway League of Artists and Midsouthern Watercolorists where she has attained signature status.
Currently her work is in Frameworks, Carmen’s, The Frame Place, Centennial Valley Club in Conway and Mather Lodge in Morrilton. Her work also hangs in several banks, two universities, and many private collections.
