Tom Herrin

Tom Herrin has always been interested in art. He began painting watercolors over 30 years ago in Corpus Christi, TX where he was influenced by the architects, landscape architects, urban planners, and artists he worked with in his profession of Urban Planning. He opened his own consulting practice in urban and regional planning in Arkansas many years ago. He reduced his workload in 1998 to allow more time for painting.

Tom studied watercolor painting with Selma Blackburn at The Arkansas Arts Center also with Sheila Parsons, Amy Hill Imler, and many other noted artists. He has entered shows in Arkansas, Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana and has won many awards. He is the only artist who has won "Best of Show" two years in a row at the large Artists in the Forest annual competition and has won many other awards and honors.

Watercolors and other media Tom uses in his paintings are a way of expressing emotions, feelings, and ideas about the world in which we live. His favorite medium is, of course, watercolors which are direct expressions of emotions he feels. He says watercolors are free and less likely to follow set patterns and rules for painting and creativity can take over.

Tom shows his work at the Shoppes on Woodlawn in the Hillcrest area near where he and his wife, LaJauna, live. They are members of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church in Little Rock.

He has a website blog which shows many of his works and his philosophy of painting. It is: http://Tommyswatercolors.blogspot.com.
